Brothers In Arms Memorial Park

Commemorating all brothers (and sisters) who fought and died in First World War (and many other wars), leaving a huge impact on families around the world. Remembrance is - now more than ever - important to guarantee it won't happen again... Lest we forget!

The Brothers In Arms Memorial Project

About the team

What was once one man's dream became a whole group's passion!

The story of the Brothers in Arms John and Jim Hunter did not only move Johan Vandewalle and his excavation team. A group of World War I enthusiast, consisting of battlefield guides, (amateur) historians and military history writers, were so inspired by the story that they decided to start a non-profit organisation to help build the memorial park and make the dream come true...

About the memorial park

The Brothers In Arms Memorial Park want to commemorate all (pairs) of brothers and sisters who served together in the Great War (and by extension all other wars) and of whom at least one of them was killed during the fighting.

The memorial park also intends to have people reflecting on the impact of war on families worldwide. While visiting the Brothers In Arms Memorial Park you get to think about families torn apart by war everywhere in the world.

About John & Jim Hunter

The story of John and Jim Hunter is one of many stories of families who had more than one family member fighting at the frontlines or working as medical personnel during the Great War.

Yet, the story is quite unique, as it shows brotherly love and compassion in a family tragedy. As John loses his life in battle, Jim vows to get him back to Australia, but unfortunately can't locate the grave at the end of the war... It will leave Jim devastated for the rest of his life...
